SREE JAYANIDHI – Introduction

The objective of the program "SREE JAYANIDHI" is to create devotional awareness about the great epic 'SREE MAHABHARATA' in children. This is an objective test conducted every year on the occasion of 'SREE VIJAYADASHAMI' festival. The epic Sree Mahabharata was written by Lord Ganesha as narrated by Sri Sri Sri Vedavyasa Maharshi in Sanskrit.

Sri Vedavyasa is considered an incarnation of Lord Sri Maha Vishnu. He authored:

  • 18 Puranas
  • 18 Upa Puranas
  • 564 Brahma Sutras

He also divided the Vedas into four parts:

  • Rigveda
  • Yajurveda
  • Samaveda
  • Atharvana Veda

Hence, he is revered as Vedavyasa Maharshi. His birthday is celebrated as Vyasa Purnima or Guru Purnima.

Rewritten Mahabharata in Indian Languages

The Mahabharata has been rewritten in several Indian languages, including:

  • Sri Madandhra Bharatam in Telugu by Kavitrayam
  • Mahabharata in Kannada by Kumara Vyasa

Great saint Sri Madhvacharya wrote the 'Sri Mahabharata Tatparya Nirnaya' based on the Mahabharata and Ramayana in Sanskrit.

Importance of the Mahabharata

The epic Sree Mahabharata, also known as 'Jaya', is considered the summary of all four Vedas, and is often referred to as the Panchama Veda (Fifth Veda).
